By using the JobAdvisor website (Site) you consent to the processing of your personal information in accordance this Policy and agree to be bound by it and our Terms of Use. By registering with the Site, you agree that this will include the use of your email address to send you updates made to the Site (such as new comments, reviews, ratings or blog entries) or other marketing communications from time to time that you may be interested in. How JobAdvisor collects your personal information

JobAdvisor is a website that helps job seekers to discover and compare employers online.

The Site involves the processing and storage of data about a company or individual. That data can include personal information. "Personal information" is information about an identified or identifiable individual, and may include information such as the individual’s name, email address, previous or current employer, work history, job title, and opinion(s) about previous or current employers.

The Site is not intended for, nor do we knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18.

JobAdvisor may collect personal information directly from you when you:

  • register as a user/member/employer,
  • write a review,
  • create a company profile,
  • post comments on the JobAdvisor blog,
  • contact the JobAdvisor support team, and
  • visit our Site.

The types of personal information we process about you include your name and contact details and any personal information you choose to provide in any review or comments you post or submit to us. You should only provide us with any sensitive personal data (for example, information relation to your race or ethnic origin, your political opinions, religious beliefs, trade union memberships, health, sexual life and the commission of any criminal offences or proceedings) if you agree that we can process and share the information in accordance with the terms of this Policy and our Terms of Use.

Where we require personal information to comply with legal or contractual obligations, then the provision of such personal information is mandatory; if such personal information is not provided, then we will not be able to administer the relationship with you or meet our obligations. In all other cases, the provision of personal information is optional.

How JobAdvisor collects information about you using automated means

JobAdvisor collects information on website visits, including (but not limited to) which sections of the site are most frequently visited, how often they are visited and the period of time viewed. The data is anonymous and is not used to identify you individually. We use this information to improve and enhance the site and sometimes we share the data with partners and customers in order to allow them to enhance the performance of their presence or their activities on the Site.

Our web servers record the IP address of all site visitors in order to assist our team in resolving technical problems or other site issues. The data we collect is aggregated, which means in general it cannot be traced to an individual site user.

If you log into our Site using your social network account such as Facebook or LinkedIn, we may receive basis details from your social network profile. The details we receive depend on your social network privacy settings but may include your profile overview and email address. We may receive additional information from your profile if you give us permission to access it.

How JobAdvisor collects, holds, and uses your personal information for limited purposes

JobAdvisor collects your personal information so that we can provide you with access to the Site and any related features. In doing so, JobAdvisor may use the personal information we have collected from you for purposes related to the Site including to:

  • verify your identity,
  • administer your access,
  • notify you of new additions or changes to the Site,
  • provide recruiting services to employers,
  • carry out internal testing, research and training relating to the Site,
  • assist with the resolution of technical support issues or other issues relating to the Site,
  • gather management information to form statistical and trend analysis,
  • to customize and improve the features, performance and support of our Site or to develop new services,
  • comply with laws and regulations in applicable jurisdictions,
  • communicate with you (including via email), and
  • provide you with news, information and updates in relation to our products and services where we have the appropriate permissions to do so.

  • By using the Site, you consent to your personal information being collected, held and used in this way and for any other use you authorise. JobAdvisor will only use your personal information for the purposes described in this Policy or with your express permission.

    It is your responsibility to keep your password to the Site safe. You should notify us as soon as possible if you become aware of any misuse of your password, and immediately change your password within the Site or via the “Forgot your password” process.

    How JobAdvisor uses aggregate or anonymous information

    JobAdvisor may use aggregated or anonymous information so we can administer and improve our website, analyse trends, and gather broad demographic information. We may share this information with third parties but this cannot be used to identify you individually.

    JobAdvisor may hold your personal information on servers located in the U.S.

    All data, including personal and non-personal information, that is entered into the Site by you, or automatically imported on your instruction, is encrypted and transferred to JobAdvisor's secure servers as a function of transmission across the Internet. By using the Site, you consent to your personal information being transferred to our servers as set out in this Policy.

    Currently our secure servers are located in both Australia and in the United States of America (U.S.), by Amazon Web Services (AWS), and your personal information will be encrypted, routed through, and stored on, those servers. If the location of our servers change in the future, we will update this Policy. You should review our Policy regularly to keep informed of any updates.

    By providing your personal information to JobAdvisor, you consent to JobAdvisor storing your personal information on secure servers hosted in the U.S. While your personal information will be stored on servers located in the U.S., it will remain within JobAdvisor’s effective control at all times. The server host’s role is limited to providing a hosting and storage service to JobAdvisor, and we've taken necessary steps to ensure that our server hosts do not have access to, and use the necessary level of protection for, your personal information.

    If you do not want your personal information to be transferred to a server located in the U.S., you should not provide JobAdvisor with your personal information or use the Site.

    Storage and security

    JobAdvisor is committed to protecting the security of your personal information and we take all reasonable precautions to protect it from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Your personal information is stored on secure servers that have SSL Certificates issued by leading certificate authority Thawte, and all data transferred between you and the Site is encrypted.

    However, the Internet is not in itself a secure environment and we cannot give an absolute assurance that your information will be secure at all times. Transmission of personal information over the Internet is at your own risk and you should only enter, or instruct the entering of, personal information to the Site within a secure environment.

    We will advise you at the first reasonable opportunity upon discovering or being advised of a security breach where your personal information is lost, stolen, accessed, used, disclosed, copied, modified, or disposed of by any unauthorised persons or in any unauthorised manner.

    Notwithstanding the above, JobAdvisor explicitly disclaims any and all liability in relation to information contained on the site and will not be held responsible for from any unauthorised access of your personal information. We rely on your help in keeping your personal information secure, in particular by maintaining the confidentiality of any username or password used on the site. Please let us know immediately if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account by another party, or if you become aware of any other security issue in relation to the site.

    JobAdvisor only discloses your Personal Information in limited circumstances

    JobAdvisor may share your personal information in the following circumstances:

    • with your consent;
    • where it is necessary to comply with the law, any court orders, subpoenas or other legal processes or investigations including by law enforcement or public authorities; enforce or apply our Terms of Use and other agreements; or to protect the rights, property, safety of JobAdvisor, our users or others. Where possible and appropriate, we will notify you if we are required by law to disclose your personal information before doing so;
    • we do employ the services of third party service providers to help us in certain areas, such as website hosting and maintenance and sending out emails on our behalf. In some cases the third party may receive your personal information. However, at all times, we will control and be responsible for the use of your personal information. The third parties who host our servers do not control, and are not permitted to access or use your personal information except for the limited purpose of storing the information. This means that, for the purposes of Australian privacy legislation and Australian users of the Service, JobAdvisor does not currently "disclose" personal information to third parties located overseas.
    • if we sell all or part of our business, or make a sale or transfer of assets, including a sale in bankruptcy or are otherwise involved in a merger or business transfer, we may transfer your personal information to a third party as part of that transaction;
    • if you are able to apply for a particular job through our Site, we will disclose your personal information to the employer to whom you apply
    • JobAdvisor does not store your credit card details

      If you choose to pay for any services offered by the Site by credit card, your credit card details are not stored by the Site and cannot be accessed by JobAdvisor staff. Your credit card details are encrypted and securely stored by Braintree Payment Solutions LLC to enable JobAdvisor to automatically bill your credit card on a recurring basis. You should review Braintree's Privacy Policy to ensure you are happy with it.

      JobAdvisor blogs and reviews

      Our Site offers publicly accessible blogs and opportunities to rate and/or comment on your experience with employers. You should be aware that any information you provide in these areas may be read, collected, and used by others who access them. To request removal of your personal information from our blog or a review, contact us at: privacy@jobadvisor.org. In some cases, we may not be able to remove your personal information, in which case we will let you know if we are unable to do so and why. Accordingly, you should not post sensitive information or any information you would not want to be made public on these blogs or reviews.

      You post any comment, rating or opinion on the Site at your own risk. We cannot control the actions of other Users or members of the public with whom you may choose to share your content. We are not responsible for circumvention of any privacy settings or security measures contained on the Site. You understand and acknowledge that, even after removal, copies of your comments, ratings or opinions may remain viewable in cached and archived pages or if other users have copied or stored such material.

      You may request access to your personal information

      It is your responsibility to ensure that the personal information you provide to us is accurate, complete and up-to-date. You may request access to the personal information we hold, or request that we update or correct any personal information about you by emailing us at privacy@jobadvisor.org and provide us with sufficient information to enable you and your information to be identified. Please note that we may withhold access to your personal information where we have the right to do so under applicable data protection legislation.

      If you’d like to delete your account, you can do so within your account settings. Upon deletion of your account, you will no longer have full access to all of the information on our Site and any content you have submitted will be pulled from the Site. Any personal information collected will be deleted from our active databases but may remain in our archives for legal and back up purposes, as permitted by applicable law.

      JobAdvisor utilises "cookies". Cookies are text files containing small amounts of information which are downloaded to your device when you visit a site. Cookies are then sent back to the originating site on each subsequent visit, or to another site that recognises that cookie.       JobAdvisor sends notifications, articles, product information, and feature updates to you via email. Our emails will contain clear and obvious instructions describing how you can choose to be removed from any mailing list not essential to the Site. JobAdvisor will remove you at your request.

      JobAdvisor has a privacy complaints process

      If you wish to complain about how we have handled your personal information, please provide our Privacy Officer with full details of your complaint and any supporting documentation:

      Our Privacy Officer will endeavour to provide an initial response to your query or complaint within 5 business days, and investigate and attempt to resolve your query or complaint within 30 business days or such longer period as is necessary and notified to you by our Privacy Officer.

      This Policy may be updated from time to time

      JobAdvisor reserves the right to change this Policy at any time, and any amended Policy is effective upon posting to this Site. JobAdvisor will make every effort to communicate any significant changes to you via email or notification via the Site. Your continued use of the Site will be deemed acceptance of any amended Policy.

      Partners & advertisers

      We provide links and pass online job applications or expressions of interest directly to third party users (such as employers). The use of your personal information by these third parties is not within the control of JobAdvisor and we cannot accept responsibility for the conduct of these companies. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of these third party users so you can understand how they collect, use and share your personal information.


      We’d love to hear your ideas and feedback. We use this to improve the site and our service and we may also share your feedback with partners or third parties, in which case any identifying information you provide will be removed.
