“Everyone says they're different. This place really is.”
I've worked for a lot of organisations in the past who pride themselves on doing things differently. Either they have a 'work hard / play hard' culture, or they have a strong focus on employee engagement and empowerment, or they've worked out that a relaxed, more casual culture works for them and embraced it. Sometimes these things are implemented in a meaningful way, but in many cases they are nothing more than lip service.
Here at 10collective, these specific ways of working are implemented and embraced in a truly authentic way, and that has been an amazing breath of fresh air. Authenticity is the core value that sets this business apart, and in the time that I have been here so far, the unsolicited feedback from candidates and clients alike has really blown me away. People see the authentic nature of this place and, when seen in contrast to the often vacuous experiences they have elsewhere, are truly impacted by it.
In terms of the actual working experience, we do work very hard, but we have a truly great time in the process and the work day is rife with music and banter. Oh, and did I mentioned that we don't take our work home? Don't even have laptops to set the expectation. Amazing.
10collective is a lean, mean fighting machine. Our processes are tight, simple and to the point. Nothing onerous, no fluff, and certainly no process for process' sake. I say that to point out that the standard corporate structure and framework that many, including current employees, are used to, just doesn't exist here. Everyone is expected to pull their own weight without any hand-holding - it's a real 'by your own bootstraps' environment. If you're the kind of person who can't problem solve and think for yourself, who needs constant direction and constant reassurance, this is not the place for you.
“I actually enjoying going to work”
I was stuck not knowing exactly what I wanted to do for my next job about a year ago, when Georgie (the 10c director) took a chance on someone from a non-recruitment background, she had faith in my tenacity, creativity and charm (hey, she said it!) and ability to bring a human approach to recruitment. I have since been taught the ropes and this introduction is something I find completely reflected in the 10collective ethos. This is not a churn and burn corporate and soulless company, it's all based on human behaviour, transparency and being yourself. I wouldn't work in this field if it wasn't like this, and thankfully I've found myself in a company where I feel myself, love the people I work with, have learnt a TONNE, and the office is brilliant with a work-from-home-feel.
It's not for the faint hearted. You need tenacity and drive. It can take time, but it's worth it.
You have lots of freedom to run your own recruitment desk, plus working with a well-reputed brand helps when reaching out to potential candidates and clients.
You're given a lot of freedom, so you need to be that way inclined.

“Honesty, transparency and a little bit of banter is how 10collective operate”
My experience with 10collective was initially as a candidate; meeting with one of the consultants, the first to show me sincere concern and empathy - she wanted to help. She picked up on unhappiness with my career to date and suggested that I be honest with myself. She also saw potential in me to try something different, she introduced me to her boss and I’ve been working at 10collective since.
The ethos of that consultant is carried through management, administration and colleagues; everyone here treats job-hunters with respect, care and coaches candidates through a process helping to put their best foot forward.
10collective’s clients respect our industry knowledge and trust that we’re representing people with calibre, personality and capability.
10collective have a real network and continue to service the digital community with fantastic, interesting talent.
Honesty, transparency and a little bit of banter is how 10collective operate - completely in line with what I was looking for in a role. And nestled away in a back alley of Fitzroy are a bunch of rad individuals I don’t mind hanging out with in my 9 - 5pm for sure.
Learn, advance, be ready to chip in and know no one is going to carry you.
Work hard, play hard; an opportunity to carve your own niche is here if you want it - if that’s not what you’re willing to do, jog on.
